1A is dedicated to providing you with the best experience with your ICT environment. Therefore, we aspire to be as compatible as possible with other technologies. One aspect is managing permissions within the shares. They can now be set just as you could on a Windows server.
Linux and Windows use very different methods to determine permissions. As a result it was not possible to manage these shares fully and correctly under Windows. Recently, support for this was declared ready for production after years of intensive development and testing.
This also allows you to properly manage all permissions to folders and files within the shares directly from Windows. When something goes wrong with these permissions, we no longer need to correct these for you: all persons with 1A-manager access can always take ownership and can then correct the permissions themselves.
Of course 1A-manuals will be published. For Windows 8.1, we have now published two manuals: Permissions in shares and Take ownership. The manuals for Windows 7 will follow soon and we are currently investigating if and how this is can be done in Mac OS X.
